Jeanie Buss and the reasons why she defended her controversial nude Playboy photoshoot

Jeanie Buss sent shockwaves around the NBA after making the claim that she was groped by a fellow NBA owner. The Los Angeles Lakers' owner revealed the news during an interview with Graham Bensinger.

"As we were waiting, taking a break from the meeting and everybody's in line for the buffet for lunch during the lunch break, somebody grabs my ass. I turn around and I was so shocked. But it was like, again, if I didn't have the confidence that my dad put in me, that was a moment where I wanted to shrink and to be nothing, that I would have, you know, gotten sick and said, 'I gotta go,'" said part of her shocking statement.

Given her position as the controlling owner and president of the Lakers, Buss has become somewhat of a pioneer in breaking the stigma attached to woman occupying senior positions in sport... and this revelation will likely help to propel that even more.

Playboy controversy

In the same conversation with Bensinger, Buss spoke about her 'controversial' nude Playboy photoshoot, explaining that it still peruses her despite having done it over twenty years ago. "I probably receive five to 10 requests a week where people print the pictures and ask me to sign them," she said.

In fact, it was not that long ago that Buss revealed that she still has to defend her decision to participate in the shoot, and precisely why she wanted to do it in the first place. "I'm still explaining it 20 years later. They want to judge and put me in a category." said the owner in a 2020 interview with Sports Illustrated.

"When I posed, I was 32 years old. It wasn't like I was making a mistake that I didn't know what I was getting myself into. For me, I was at the maturity level that I could do it. And I was like every other model, I had to go through the test photo shoot and all that kind of stuff. It was my own personal goal, not anything to do with business or anything. Just something I wanted to do," revealed the Lakers' owner.
